DAVID HIGHET

David Highet was born on Merseyside and joined the Liverpool Echo as a runner at the age of 16. 

He moved to the Birkenhead News as a trainee reporter six months later and subsequently worked for the Wolverhampton Express and Star and West Cheshire Newspapers before returning to the Echo as its assistant editor.

In 1980 he joined Granada Television as the General Manager of the newly opened studio in Liverpool. Six years later he was asked by David Plowright on his appointment as Chairman of Granada to become the company’s Head of Public Affairs.

He left Granada in 1990 and joined United Utilities.
