Wigan born Trevor Hyett cut his journalistic teeth as editor of the Young Communist Party newspaper, Challenge, and later on the Morning Star before joining the TV Times.

It was here that he came into contact with Gus Macdonald when he was doing a feature about World In Action. Gus signed him up initially as a reporter for Granada Reports. He later became a presenter on the programme working alongside Tony Wilson, Patti Caldwell, Bob Greaves, Anna Ford and Bob Smithies. During his time there he recalls interviewing Muhammad Ali, Ted Heath, Lonnie Donegan and George Harrison.

Trevor also had a stint as a reporter on Union World and co-presented On The Market.

He left Granada to join Thames Television as a reporter on their evening new programme, Thames at Six.

Trevor was also a folk singer of some note and to this day continues to record and entertain.
