Dorothy Byrne joined Granada in 1982 as a researcher, initially working on Granada Reports.

Following a period on the programme Union World, made by Granada for Channel 4, she joined World in Action, later becoming a producer (one of the few women to hold this role).

She left Granada in 1994 and since 2003 has been head of news and current affairs at Channel 4. During her tenure, the Channel’s news and current affairs programmes have won numerous BAFTA, RTS, Emmy Awards and others.

She is a visiting professor of the School of Journalism at Lincoln University and was made a Fellow of The Royal Television Society for her “outstanding contribution to television”.
